Unsolved Murder Mysteries

Sometimes an act as heinous as a murder remains under wraps for weeks, months or years. But after each passing decade, the case gets older and is deemed as unsolved. Throughout history, there are numerous unsolved murder mysteries. But we bring to you some of the goriest, oldest and infamous murder mysteries of all times.

1. The Gatton Murders: Michael Murphy(28), Norah Murphy (27) & Ellen Murphy(18) were three siblings who had left home to attend a dance in the town hall which had been cancelled. But when they did not return until the next morning, their mother Mrs Murphy got worried and asked their son-in-law Willian M'Neill to look out for them. He found their bodies 1.9 km from Gatton. Their legs were arranged with feet pointing westwards & both women having their hands tied with handkerchiefs. 3. Heinterkaifeck Murders: Six inhabitants of Heinterkaifeck farmstead were brutally murdered with a pickaxe on March 31,1922. Their bodies were found four days later when suspicion grew stronger as the inhabitants were not seen for a while. Maria Baumgartner, one of the victims, was a new maid who had arrived the same day at the farm. What makes this case more spooky than any others is the fact that strange incidents were observed before the murders. Six months prior to the murders, the old family maid quit claiming that she heard sounds & believed the house to be haunted. Andreas Gruber, owner of the house found a newspaper from Munich at his property which he did not remember buying and was neither subscribed by anyone in the vicinity. Few days prior to the murders Gruber reported neighbours that he found tracks in the snow leading to his farm but not leading back. One of his house keys also went missing. The family reportedly had seen a man with a moustache around their property. A lot of suspects were named but the case remains unsolved till date.

6. Holly Piirainen: This ten-year-old was visiting her grandparents in Massachusetts along with her brother when she went missing and was found murdered. Her remains were found two months later by hunters in Brimfield, Massachusetts. Her murder was linked seven years later to the murder of Molly Bish as one of their suspects were common. The scariest thing about this connection is, however, a letter Molly Bish had written seven years ago when she was Ten to Piirainen's family saying, "I am very sorry. I wish I could make it up to you. Holly is a very pretty girl. She is almost as tall as me. I wish I knew Holly. I hope they found her."
